Tony & Julie were very friendly and appeared willing to listen to comments so I hope they take these in the same spirit: The room was clean, layout was good and decor was well coordinated. We liked the clothes storage rack and valet stand - good use of limited space. The bedside light had a nice gentle glow but we could have done with one on each side of the bed. The mattress was so lumpy we had to take off all the bedding and turn it and we could still feel all the springs. The quilt was totally inadequate so we were cold. After the first night we asked for extra bedding and were very grateful for the cosy throw. There was no window or extractor in the bathroom and the bathroom door wouldn't stay shut so there was no privacy or ventilation. The shower was good but the shower curtain was so thin that it tended to attach itself to the user when showering - a weighted one would help quite a bit. There was a warning notice to close the bathroom door when showering to avoid setting off an alarm but the door wouldn’t stay shut, there was no catch and the lock didn't work. So how could we close the door? There was no soap and we were told it wasn't normally provided although we were given some when we asked (we gave the second bar to another guest). There is a standard expectation that even budget hotels provide soap as it gets soggy when packed in a wash bag. Suggestions: Replace the mattress. Provide extra bedding (eg the throw) as standard (rather than heating the room overnight) Fix the lock on the bathroom door (the bolt doesn’t line up with the hole) Mend the bathroom extractor fan (or fit one) Provide a bedside light for each side Provide a shaver point (we didn't need it but most men would expect it) The room could be improved without spending £££ but for an uncomfortable night without breakfast I don't think it represented good value and we weren't tempted to use the restaurant.
