Fljótstunga Travel Farm

The farm is mentioned in the Sagas as far back as the year 1011. The land has run in one family since the 1800's and is one of oldest tourism farms in Iceland. We offer 7 cozy cottages, all different in their own way. Most are suitable for a couple but can have up to 4 people. All cottages have private WC and cooking facilities. Some have private shower. Upon arrival we give you a basket with linen, botanic bathroom items and towels for body, hands and face. We offer a camping ground with WC and shower facilities.

In our renovated barn, that now serves as a gathering space, guests can access free WiFi, relax on the couches beside the stone collection, browse through the traveling books and see the old tools from the family's history on display. Here we also serve breakfast with products from the farm and other farms. Our main attraction is our daily, guided tours to the preserved Vidgelmir lava cave. Also in September, hundreds of people come to witness the annual sheep gathering.

Located Near

We are in the middle of the nature and in one of the largest lava areas of the country. Víðgelmir, one of the largest lava caves in the world, and said to be one of its most remarkable, is at our farm. On the way you can pass by Europe's most productive hot spring, the home of 13th century writer Snorri Sturluson and the unique Hraunfossar waterfalls. Next to us there are swimming and hot pools, golf courses, horse rental and the 2nd largest glacier in the Iceland with its many activities.
