Located Near

We are 30kms from Ferrara Dodici Morelli: The nearest town is called XII Morelli. It's a 15-minute walk or a five-minute bike ride. There is a small supermarket there, a bank, post office, pharmacy, tobacconist, elementary school, various small factories and workshops, several bars, and a breathtaking church from the 1970's. Crevalcore: This is a cute little town about a 15-minute drive from the castle, with roughly 12,000 inhabitants. The train station of Crevalcore is the closest to Galeazza. There are bus connections between the train station and the castle, but by reservation only. Reservations can be made up to one hour before departure; please ask for a schedule of bus times if you're interested. Cento: Another town worth a visit, mostly for its art museum that has an impressive collection of paintings by Guercino. Who? Ask Clark. A good place to spend a morning or afternoon. Bologna: One of the most beautiful cities in Italy and well worth a visit, or several. Trains leave every hour from Crevalcore. The cost is two euro and in less than 30 minutes you'll be there. Ask Clark for a free map and advice about what to see. Ferrara: Somehow this lovely little town with its half-medieval, half-Renaissance center has been almost forgotten by many foreigners. Once upon a time, long before high-speed trains and mass tourism were invented, the city of the Este family, with its impressive moated castle, cathedral, and numerous museums and palaces, was a fundamental stop on the grand tour…not any more, but to our benefit! Best reached by car in about 45 minutes. Modena: The Romanesque cathedral of Modena alone justifies a day trip to one of Emilia's richest and most fashionable towns. If you have a car, a great half-day getaway would be visiting the cathedral of Modena and the monastery of Nonantola, 15 minutes further on towards Bologna. Remember that most churches are closed (like most shops) between 12.30 pm and 3.30 pm. Other Day Trips: Florence and Venice are about two hours away by car or train, and Mantova a bit over one hour. Verona is about one and a half hours away via direct train from Crevalcore.
