The Hotel Phalesia, opened in 1995, is a classic example of a modern hotel which has taken the ancient name of the city of Piombino.
The hotel responds to needs beyond those of holiday-makers as it is possible to organise meetings here thanks to its conference hall which is equipped to receive around 200 people.
The seating is arranged as in an amphitheatre and a perfect balance has been achieved between the use of space and sound-proofing and furnishing for comfort which is indispensable to business meetings. The hotel is in an excellent position on a hill, in the port area of Piombino, and is about 200 metres from the ferries for Elba, Corsica and Sardinia. It is within easy reach of local places of cultural, archaeological and naturalistic interest such as the Etruscan necropolis at Baratti, and the enchanting medieval village of Populonia - both only a few kilometres away. Trips can easily be organised to more distant locations such as Pisa, Florence, Larderello, San Gimignano and Volterra. From Piombino small beaches can be reached which nestle into green countryside. In the town itself there is an archaeological museum, a marine biology research centre, as well as a variety of monuments like the ancient port, the church of S. Antimo and the castle of the Appiani.
