Directions to Purple Snapper Dive Resort
Getting to Malapascua is a breeze. Once here finding the Purple Snapper is even easier.
Below are your major stops to reach Malapascua:
Manila
Cebu
Maya
Most travelers to Malapascua enter the Philippines via Manila or Cebu. If Malapascua is your first travel destination in the Philippines, Cebu is the better point of entry. There are direct flights to Cebu from, Hongkong, Japan (Tokyo – Narita), Singapore and South Korea (Seoul – Incheon & Busan).
If your point of entry to the Philippines is Manila you may book your flight to Cebu with any of these local airlines.
Philippine Airlines
Cebu Pacific
Zest Air
Air Philippines
Often, travelers choose Cebu Pacific and Zest Air as they usually have the best deals. Cebu Pacific is also popular for it’s onboard games and dancing flight attentants. The other airlines sometimes offer cheap seats, so shop around and find the best deal. Do note that your flight to Cebu should ideally touch down early morning if you DO NOT intend to spend the night in Cebu or Maya.
Once in Cebu your next major stop is Maya. There are 2 ways to get there-by bus or by taxi.
By Bus
From the airport, take a taxi and go to the North Bus Terminal. Once at the terminal take a bus going to Maya. It takes 4 – 4.5 hours from Cebu. Ordinary Bus fare is P180.00 while Air Conditioned Bus fare is P190.00. Ordinary buses leave every half hour while air conditioned buses leave every hour from the terminal. Do note that non-Air Conditioned Buses to Maya maybe carrying live animals (i.e. fighting and non -fighting cocks).
Travel tip:
There will be Airport Taxis waiting outside the baggage area, they stand out as they are all painted yellow. IGNORE them to save money. There are regular metered taxis, to get to them look for the ramp on the right most side of the building across the baggage area. Regular Cebu taxis are usually painted white. Most taxi drivers will set a price for wherever you are going, insist on using the meter. It should not cost you more that P150 to get to the North Bus Terminal.
By Taxi
See taxi tip above. Taking a taxi from the airport to Maya will cut your travel time down to 3 – 3.5 hours. Cut a deal with the taxi driver, they usually quote P1,500.00. Try to negotiate to cut the price down by a couple of hundred pesos. If you like the driver enough ask him to pick you up in Maya on your way back to Cebu. Make sure you get his contact information in case there are changes in your itineraries. You may just want to stay longer in Malapascua. It’s not a rare case.
Both transportation options will drop you off at Maya Port. Outrigger pump boats leave every hour. However, if there are not enough passengers they will wait until there are enough people to take to Malapascua. Fixers will usually offer you to take a private boat to the island. If you arrive at around 2PM or earlier, it should not be necessary for you to take a private boat. Regular boats cost P80 per person. Private boats are offered for P1,200. Should you decide to take a private boat, negotiate to lower the price. You may also talk to other travelers who are willing to take a private boat with you and split the cost. The boat ride from Maya to Malapascua takes 30-45 minutes depending on weather condition. During low tide, a dinghy boat will be necessary to get you from the port to the outrigger boat that will take you to Malapascua. Dinghy boats charge P20 per passenger and another P20 for luggage.
Regular boats drop passengers off in Logon, also know as the village (see map). From there it is very easy to find us. Be advised that canvassers will be offering you places to stay. Telling them that you have a reservation will get them off your back. Malapascua is a small island and almost everyone knows where anywhere is. Just ask around or follow our directional signs once you see our bamboo arch go straight to the bar and restaurant. Our beautiful and friendly staff will be ready to welcome you.
